Sedan Slides Off Rain-Slicked Route 17
A 22-year-old driver escaped injury when his sedan ran off Route 17 and into the woods during a rainstorm, authorities said. The Bronx motorist was headed south when his Honda Civic slid off the road at the Hollywood Avenue exit in Ho-Ho-Kus shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, Police Capt. Greg McBain said. Bad weather conditions were to blame, the captain said. The driver refused further medical attention after being examined at the scene, he said. Firefighters Battle Frigid Temps To Douse Ridgefield Blaze
Ridgefield firefighters conquered frigid temperatures to quickly snuff a weekend blaze. The two-alarm electrical fire ignited in an attic vent at the single-family Shaler Boulevard home at Lancaster Road shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, responders said. "They made a great stop," a mutual aid provider said. "It could have been a lot worse, but because of their quick response they were able to knock it down quick." A 13-year-old girl was pulled from the municipal pool in Maywood on Labor Day, police said. A lifeguard quickly got to the drowning teen, witnesses said. The good news: She was alert and conscious when EMS took her to Hackensack University Medical Center, Maywood Police Detective Sgt. William Phayre said.

Two people were hospitalized following a crash at a busy Ho-Ho-Kus intersection. The collision at the five corners at Sheridan and Hollywood avenues near Gilbert Road around 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 severely damaged an SUV and a wagon. A Pennsylvania resident was killed in a shark attack while vacationing in The Bahamas, authorities said. The 58-year-old woman was snorkeling with her family when a bull shark bit her in the waters near Green Cay just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said during a press conference. No injuries were reported in a pre-dawn classroom fire Tuesday at the Haskell Elementary School. No children were in the building when the blaze broke out in a classroom at the Ringwood Avenue school shortly before 7 a.m. and was quickly extinguished, responders said. Man Takes Fatal Leap From NJ Turnpike: Police
A 33-year-old man leapt to his death from a New Jersey Turnpike overpass in Newark Monday morning, authorities said. Alain Lopez-Dorado, of Union, jumped off of the Interchange 14 overpass around 8:40 a.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper Brandi Slota said. He apparently landed on Delancy Street, developing reports say. Lopez-Dorado was transported by EMS to the University Hospital where he died, Slota said. The investigation is active and ongoing.

A 43-year-old man was hospitalized after being assaulted with a machete inside of a Kearny Walmart Friday, police said. Two people were hospitalized after being attacked by a family dog in South Brunswick on Tuesday, police said. A man in his 50s and woman in her 60s were bitten by the family dog, a pitbull, at a house on the 100 block of New Road, local police said. An electric scooter rider was clinging to life Tuesday morning after being struck in Passaic, responders said. Man Struck, Killed By Hoboken Bound Train In Newark
A man was struck and killed by an NJ Transit train in Newark Tuesday morning, authorities said. Service to the Morris and Essex line was operating on a 30-minute delay in both directions after the 7:45 a.m. incident west of the Broad Street Station, NJT spokeswoman Lisa Torbic said. The train left Montclair State University at 7:10 a.m., and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 8 a.m., Torbic said. New Jersey Transit Police and EMS were on scene. Port Authority Police Sgt. Christopher Mathus was on patrol at the World Trade Center Oculus Thursday morning when someone told him a man had fallen onto nearby subway tracks. A worker had suddenly went into cardiac arrest on the roof of the Port Authority administration building at the Lincoln Tunnel when several heroes rushed to his rescue. Senior Tunnel and Bridge Agent Keith O'Halloran and Tunnel and Bridge Agent David Brierty found him not breathing, with no pulse early Saturday.
