Flames Rip Through Clifton Home — Family Escapes With Nothing But Their Lives A Clifton family is starting over after a fire destroyed their home and belongings Saturday, Sept. 6, authorities said. At approximately 8:53 p.m., Officer Eddie Maldonado III was on patrol on DeMott Avenue when he saw flames and heavy smoke coming from the front windows of a home, Clifton Police Lt. Robert Anderson said. A good Samaritan neighbor and the officer alerted the family of the fire and made sure everyone got out safely, Anderson said. Five Arrested After Fights Break Out At Carnival At Hamilton Mall: Police Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the Hamilton Mall after fights broke out at a carnival on Friday, May 2, police said. The carnival was being held in the mall’s parking lot, as several altercations broke out between disorderly people, Township of Hamilton police said. Officers implemented crowd-control measures and requested mutual aid assistance, as nearby law enforcement agencies responded, police said. Five people were arrested, and several minor injuries were reported, police said. Additional charges are pending, police said.

Popular Jersey Shore Beach Towns Limit Passes Due To Crowds Two Jersey Shore beach towns are limiting the number of beach passes due to crowds. Belmar is capping the passes sold at 7,500 and Manasquan is limiting them to 1,000 per day on weekends, for any type of pass. Both were in effect as of Saturday. The new Belmar policy will "fluctuate to a lower number" depending on how many seasonal badge holders are on beaches and the tides on any given day, the borough's office of emergency management said.
