Eight residents were displaced and one was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a massive fire over the weekend in Bayonne, authorities said. Firefighters responding to the house at 95 Hobart Ave. found smoke coming from the three-story, two-family house around 4:25 p.m., Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said. Six people were displaced and one person suffered minor injuries in a Bayonne house fire sparked by a propane tank Saturday, authorities said. Firefighters arrived to heavy fire and smoke billowing from the third floor of the home at 42 Trask Ave., when they arrived at 12:03 p.m., Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said. Companies stretched three hose lines to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby houses. UPDATE: A body pulled from the water beneath the Bayonne Bridge over the weekend was that of a 19-year-old city man, friends and loved ones confirmed. Rescuers who responded to a report of a jumper shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday got help from a tug boat operator after the body was spotted in the Kill Van Kull just east of the bridge, Deputy Fire Chief Bill Bartos said. Responders rushed to rescue a person who jumped from the Bayonne Bridge just before 2 p.m. Saturday. Arriving units found individuals on a tug boat in the Kill van Kull pulling the victim aboard, located just east of the bridge, Bayonne Fire Department Deputy Chief Bill Bartos said.
