Dogs trained to sniff out explosives were brought into the stores in Bergen County, Wall Township in Monmouth County and Brick Township in Ocean County.

None found anything dangerous.

All of the threats came in around 6 p.m., authorities said.

In each instance, customers and employees were evacuated into parking lots while searches were conducted.

“We are working to identify the source of the calls,” Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Newsworks.org reported that the caller threatened to blow up big box stores in Brick if he didn’t receive cash cards.

The caller said he planted several bombs throughout both the Kmart and Walmart in the township and demanded money be sent to him through Green Dot cash cards, the site says (SEE: Caller said he planted bombs at K-Mart, Wal-Mart in Brick Wednesday).

The Bergen County Bomb Squad swept the Saddle Brook Walmart building and surrounding area after store management received a telephoned threat, Kugler said.

Both the store and surrounding businesses were evacuated as a precaution, Kugler said. Meanwhile, borough firefighters and EMS workers gathered at the firehouse.

The all-clear was given just before 7 p.m.
