A weapon was mentioned but not shown in the robbery of the Chase Bank branch at 100 Broadway, Police Chief Michael Foligno told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.

The robber was described as white, in his 20s, about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, with tattoos on his hands and wearing a black hoodie.

“He passed a note to [the teller] demanding money and threatened that he had a gun and that he would shoot her if she didn’t give him the money,” Foligno said. “He continually told her not to push the panic alarm.”

Elmwood Park police searched the area along with a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, the chief said.

The sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification was collecting evidence and reviewing surveillance video with borough detectives, he said.

“At the time of the incident there were only 2 other customers and 1 or 2 other employees inside the bank,” Foligno said. “They were at the opposite end of the bank from where the incident took place and were not involved in the incident.”

No one was injured, he said.
