Saddle Brook Police Chief Damns 'Demand For Demon' That Killed Addict, 56

Her landlord called police after finding the Midland Avenue tenant's body in her apartment around 1 p.m. Saturday, the chief said.

"Although we don't like to publicly discuss the circumstances of death, we are, unfortunately, seeing heroin overdoses and deaths way too much," Kugler said. "This victim couldn't rid herself of the heroin addiction and it sadly took her life.

"As we understand from a family member, she had been in a methodone program recently but apparently couldn't escape the demand for the demon.

"It is our hope that by announcing this tragic circumstance it reaches someone who maybe on the heroin addiction trail and hopefully thinks twice about continuing on the path, which can very well lead to the same tragic outcome," the chief said.

The Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office was conducting an autopsy.
