Charged with first-degree armed robbery, as well as forgery and theft, are Xhonero Shehu of Van Orden Street and Justin Glazer of Hickory Avenue.

Police also charged Glazer with wielding the that gun the 61-year-old store owner said was pointed at him when he tried to deliver the order.

Charged with hindering the investigation is Lakhwinder Singh, age 18, of 353 Sixth Street, whose phone was used to place the Aug. 27 call, Saddle Brook Deputy Chief Robert White said this afternoon.

Singh posted $5,000 bail and was released pending a court hearing this coming Tuesday.

Shezu, who was being held on $200,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, and Glazer, who was being held on $150,000 bail, also have Sept. 10 court appearances set..

Saddle Brook police worked with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office’s Computer Criminal Division and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Identification to solve the case, White said.

He also made special mention of Saddle Brook PD Detective Capts. Vincent Laurentino and  James Galbo and Detective Sgt. Thomas Johnson for “quick and decisive actions [that] led to the development of pertinent information” that pointed to Singh.

The deliveryman, who spoke only Mandarin, hit the gas when the trio tried to rob him, sending his car bouncing off three others.

With him in the 2010 Toyota was his 17-year-old son, who told police what happened.

His father, who lives in Jersey City, was delivering a telephone order of alcohol and soda for Nice Food of Palisade Avenue in Garfield when the three robbers tried to give him counterfeit cash for the booze, the younger man said.

When he gave it back to them, White said, one of the robbers pulled out a small handgun and hit the older man in the head.

“At that moment, [he] stepped on the accelerator in an attempt to flee … and crashed his car into the 3 nearby parked vehicles on the roadway, causing minimal damage,” the deputy chief said.

White noted that police were investigating why a package goods store was delivering alcohol in apparent violation of local ordinances.
