Two friends walking with the boy described the white pickup to police after the crash, just before midnight Saturday, and a message board was set up at the scene.
As CLIFFVIEW PILOT reported earlier, Bradley Keith Nelson, a 35-year-old wallpaper hanger from North Carolina, eventually saw it and turned himself in this morning. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident that seriously injured the teen.
The Lodi boy was walking with two friends south on a grassy shoulder along the northbound side of Westminster Place, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.
He described the teen’s injuries as “serious but non-life threatening.”
“An examination of Nelson’s vehicle, a 2001 White Ford 150 pickup truck, revealed damage to its front end and hood which is consistent with having struck the teenager,” the prosecutor said.
Nelson, who was doing sub-contracting work for a Saddle Brook company, is being held on $10,000 bail pending an appearance Wednesday in Saddle Brook Municipal Court. He is charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, along with other traffic offenses.
