Detectives are investigating the theft East Wok Chinese Cuisine Restaurant on Market Street, which Police Chief Robert Kugler said occurred sometime after the business closed last night.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence, including fingerprints, the chief said.

Kugler also had a word for area businesses:

“We try to reiterate to owners that if they need to keep cash within the closed and unoccupied business, that they not keep the cash in obvious places like the cash register,” he said.

Rather, the chief said, they should “store it in places where its going to take some time and energy for it to be found, if it ever gets found.

“In this scenario, maybe they won’t find the cash — or we can get lucky and find them while they’re rummaging through the place.”
