Pot-smoking driver at Holland Tunnel toll had toddler in back seat, police charge

BEYOND BERGEN: A Jersey City woman who was smoking a joint as she headed into the Holland Tunnel this morning had a 2½-year-old toddler in the back seat, Port Authority police said.

An officer approached a silver Hyundai driven by 22-year-old Ramos at the Holland Tunnel entrance in Jersey City at 9:30 a.m. after noticing it had an expired registration, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.

As Ramos rolled down her window, the officer smelled burnt marijuana — then noticed her holding a lit joint, Pentangelo said.

She was charged with possession of and being under the influence of drugs.

The child was “deemed in good health” and state child welfare authorities were notified.
