A PATH employee first spotted Jose Pujols-Quintas, 52, inside the restricted area off Academy Street around 10 p.m., the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said today.
He then noticed Pujols-Quintas sitting inside a black 2007 Ford Explorer with the vehicle’s rear cargo door open near a pile of copper wire, he said.
Approached by the employee, Pujols-Quintas showed him an employee pass for a contractor and said he was putting posters onto PATH trains, Pentangelo said.
Inside his vehicle were posters and 330 pounds of copper wire in plain view, he said.
“The copper cables were confirmed to be the same wires that had been placed on a nearby platform earlier,” Pentangelo said.
Pujols-Quintas ws charged with burglary and theft.
