A federal judge convicted Kirk Eady, 47, of East Brunswick, in March of intentionally intercepting the wire, oral or electronic communications of others following a four-day trial.
Eady used a website to call and record four employees from the Kearny facility while concealing his own number, making it appear as though they — and not he — placed the call, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said.
“He then called two of the employees at the same time and made it appear that one or both of the other individuals initiated the call,” Fishman said.
He revealed what he’d allegedly done to a federal cooperator, the U.S. attorney said.
Federal agents raided the jail in March 2013, taking documents and other items from administrative offices. Sources at the time said the probe was focused on Eady.
Fishman credited special agents of the FBI with making the case, handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney David L. Foster of his Special Prosecution Division.
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Court Judge Jose L. Linares sentenced Eady to three years of supervised release.
