Garfield police say Georgia trucker had loaded gun, pot

ANOTHER CVP SCOOP: A Georgia trucker who claimed he was lost while driving a damaged tractor trailer was arrested by Garfield police who said they found him carrying a loaded .380-caliber handgun, half a joint and a hash pipe in the cab.

Sgt. Joseph Marsh and Officer Jason Tani were looking over the disabled tractor-trailer in the area of Outwateriane and Joe Sipos Lane, Capt. Darren Sucarowski told CLIFFVIEW PILOT early this afternoon.

Driver Bernard Parham at first told them his truck was hit by an unknown at the Vince Lombardi rest stop in Ridgefield, but “the trailer had damage that was consistent with striking a telephone pole,” the captain said.

He also said he was looking for the Freightliner Dealership on Route 46 in Saddle Brook, the officers said.

The problem, they said, was that his driver’s log didn’t reflect his statements.

Parham, 58, of Winder, GA, was arrested after a search.

He remained held on $50,000 bail this morning in the Bergen County Jail, charged with weapons and drug offenses.
