The victim told police he’d just gotten out of his car when he spotted the pair standing apart in the parking lot of his River Drive co-op, Chief Michael Foligno said this morning.

Both were in their early 20’s, with thin builds and roughly 5-foot=9, the man said, adding that they wore black jackets and dark-colored hats.

“As he walked past them, they came together and approached him from behind and began punching him [in] the face and head until he fell to the ground,” Foligno said.

They then kicked him in the body and head.

One pulled his wallet and iPhone from his pocket and took his knapsack, the chief said. Then they took off.

Suffering from rib injuries and cut on his face, the victim knocked on doors until a neighbor helped him.

Elmwood Park officers, along with Bergen County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, searched the area.

The victim was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

Foligno asked that anyone who saw or heard something that could help the investigation call Elmwood Park police: (201) 796-0700. Callers may remain anonymous, he said.
