Officers responding to the 9:47 p.m. ADT alarm at the Pyramid Gift Shop on Market Street found a rear door pried open and several packs of Newport cigarettes missing, Foligno said.

A Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 unit traced a scent halfway down Chestnut Street while borough police reviewed surveillance video from the gift shop and nearby Fair Food Market, the chief said.

After identifying him, they arrested Claude D. Moss III of Chestnut Street, he said.

Moss, 42, who has a local criminal record stretching back more than a decade, was being held on $100,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools and hindering.

The sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence.
