A traffic stop at the intersection of Summit Avenue and River Drive around 9:50 p.m. Friday yielded several "rocks" and the arrests of the driver, Giles Brown, 46, and his passenger, 50-year-old Ronald Bacote, both of Paterson, Police Chief Michael Foligno told Daily Voice.

At one point, Bacote tried to swallow three rocks but spit them out when commanded to, Foligno said.

Because it was being used to deliver the drugs, the 2000 Lexus ES 300 was seized, the chief said.

Both men were being on $25,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail, charged with drug possession with the intent to distribute it. Bacote also was charged with destruction of evidence.

At 12:30 a.m. Saturday, officers crashed another deal -- this on at the Elmwood Shopping Center on Broadway.

Their suspect -- Kevin Acosta, 20, of Clifton -- took off toward the K-Mart and was quickly chased down, Foligno said.

While running, he tossed a brick of 50 bags of heroin onto a nearby roof, the chief said, adding that police later recovered the drugs.

Acosta was charged with Possession of CDS, Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute, Resisting Arrest and Destruction of Evidence.

Police seized $4,300 that they said he was carrying.

Acosta was released without bail pending a court hearing.
