Elmwood Park PD: Kmart shoplifter punched one employee, pulled knife on other

EXCLUSIVE: An Elmwood Park man caught shoplifting at the local Kmart punched one employee in the face and pulled a knife on another last night before he was subdued, police said this morning.

Orlando Martinez, 32, tried swiping a power drill when he was caught just before 6 p.m., Capt. Bryan DiPasquale told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

No serious injuries were reported in the scuffle that followed, as a security guard knocked away the knife and subdued Martinez, he said.

Martinez was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with robbery, aggravated assault and weapons possession.
