Elmwood Park Gas Station Robber Could Be Same Who Struck Christmas Eve

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- Elmwood Park police suspect a man who held up a gas station on New Year's Night is the same one who robbed a nearby Subway on Christmas Eve.

The 25-year-old attendant was shaken up but not injured after the robber -- wearing a ski mask and a grey hoodie -- entered the booth between the pumps at the Broadway Delta just before 9 p.m. Friday, pointed a handgun at him and threatened to shoot, Police Chief Michael Foligno told Daily Voice.

He gave the robber $306, Foligno said.

A resident reported seeing a man jump over a nearby fence and into a parking lot facing Orange Avenue, the chief said. A Bergen County Sheriff's K-9 unit followed a scent briefly but lost it, he said.

Detectives were reviewing area surveillance video.

The robber "should be considered armed and extremely dangerous," Foligno said. He asked that anyone with information that could help the investigation call (201) 796-01700.
