“Everyone’s hearts were in their chests,” Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “Thankfully he was OK.”

Foligno, who lives near the North Street home, headed there with his son — who was celebrating his 17th birthday today — when he heard the alert just after 3:15 p.m.

He also called for a K9 unit from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office. Garfield police responded, as well.

“All of a sudden, the boy came running out of his friend’s house,” the chief said. “It was a happy ending for everyone.”
