ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- A burglar had been in an Elmwood Park woman's home for some time when she finally returned, spotted bedroom lights on and ran to a neighbor's house to call police, authorities said Thursday.
Officers who responded to the 6:20 p.m. Lincoln Avenue call found the front door kicked in, every room "completely ransacked" and a considerable amount of jewelry gone, Police Chief Michael Foligno told Daily Voice.
"It appeared that [whoever was responsible] had been in the residence for a considerable amount of time," the chief said.
Officers searched the area with no luck, he said.
Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Elmwood Park police at (201) 796-0700. Callers can remain confidential, Foligno said.
