Belt beating lands mom in jail

A former school lunch aide was jailed after allegedly beating her 6-year-old kid with a belt. Although authorities say the child is OK, Vasvija Desic will likely spend her 29th birthday tomorrow in the Bergen County Jail, unless her husband or someone else is willing to post her $2,500 cash bail.

Desic, of Lincoln Place in Garfield, was taken into custody just before noon today on child endangerment charges. As a condition of her bail, she cannot have contact with either the child or a sibling.

Desic most recently worked as a school lunch aide at Garfield School No. 10 two days a week for $10 an hour. District records show she was employed from April 1 of this year through June 30. She’s now unemployed, authorities say.
