SADDLE BROOK, N.J. -- Longtime Saddle Brook resident Stephen C. Memmer died on Monday, March 7. He was 65.
Born in New York City, Memmer was raised in Fair Lawn and lived in Saddle Brook for 43 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 171 in Fair Lawn. An avid golfer, Memmer was a master barbeque chef and enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Before he retired in 2014, he worked for Federal Express for 19 years. Previously, he was a bartender in Fair Lawn for many years, and owned and operated a landscaping and masonry business.
Memmer is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Cohen) Memmer; daughters Wendy Vitiello and her husband Jerry, and Lisa Memmer; grandchildren Justin and Jayden Vitiello; siblings Ricky Memmer and his wife Janet, Charlie Memmer, and Kathy Fisher and her husband Kevin; step-mother Dolores Memmer; mother-in-law Phyllis Cohen; two loving brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Kathleen (Peters) Memmer, and his brother, Peter Memmer.
Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. service, on Thursday, March 10, at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Rd., in Fair Lawn. Entombment will be at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, March 11, at the Sanctuary of Abraham & Sarah, 735 Forest Ave., in Paramus.
