Maria 'Mary' Scolaro, 81, Elmwood Park Resident

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- Maria "Mary" (Bellaera) Scolaro, of Elmwood Park, died on Saturday, March 11. She was 81.

Born in Pozzallo, Ragusa, Sicily, Scolaro arrived in Hackensack at the age of 12. She lived there for 10 years, then in Elmwood Park for seven and Parsippany for nine, before finally settling in Elmwood Park. 

"She was a homemaker and amazing cook," information from the funeral home noted.

Scolaro is survived by her husband of 64 years, Giovanni, and her children, Dr. Rosemarie Moser, Marie Narvaez, and Frank, Vincent, Peter and Giovanni Jr. 

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rachel Vassak, Alexander Moser, Nicole Pacifico, Danielle DePiero, Alessandro and Marco Livia, Giovanni Scolaro III, Peter Scolaro II, Sebastian Jon-Lorenzo Scolaro, and Andrew, Vincenzo and Giovanni Filippo Scolaro; and great-grandchildren Serena, Ava, Natalie, Isabella and Louis.

Visiting is from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, at the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Ave., in Garfield. The funeral is Friday, arriving at the funeral home at 9 a.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church, in Hackensack. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Saddle Brook.
