Hitchhiker's 50-Year-Cold Case Cracked By Ramapo College's Genealogy Center
After nearly five decades without answers, the 1974 murder of Mary Schlais has been solved, thanks to groundbreaking work by the Ramapo College Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) Center in Mahwah, NJ.
On Nov. 7, 2024, the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of Jon Miller, 84, of Owatonna, MN, in connection with Schlais’s death.
Schlais, then 25, was hitchhiking from Minneapolis to Chicago when she was killed. Her body was found with multiple stab wounds along a road in Dunn County, WI, on Feb. 15, 1974.

Brian Glenn Bingham, 38, of Pennsville, has been found guilty of felony offenses of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding an officer from the Metropolitan Police Department, the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia said on Tuesday, Nov. 4 — the day before Election Day 2024 (criminal complaint here).

Record-breaking numbers were being reported from the state's 159 polling places according to Lt. Governor Tahesha Way.

Next Of Kin Sought For NJ Man Killed In PA Crash: Coroner
The next of kin for a New Jersey man who recently was found dead is being searched for by the Lehigh County Coroners Office according to a release on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Vyacheslav Chornyy, 56, of Hackettstown, NJ, was found dead inside his vehicle parked in the 6000 block of Warden Road, Lowhill Township, Lehigh County, PA, the coroner detailed in the release.
"The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation," the coroner wrote noting that, "There are no suspicious circumstances in this investigation."

Three Tickets Sold In North Jersey Split Jersey Cash 5 Jackpot
It was a happy Halloween for three lottery players in North Jersey.
Three tickets, sold in Bergen County, Newark and Jersey City, matched all five numbers drawn splitting the $166,806 Jersey Cash 5 jackpot from the drawing on Thursday, Oct. 31, with each ticket worth $55,602.
The tickets were sold at Acme in Allendale, Welsh Farms in Newark and Green Deli in Jersey City.

Marriott Hotel Off I-95 In NJ Gets Event Space Upgrades
The Glenpointe Marriott in Teaneck just got a major upgrade.
The project included the replacement of carpeting, wall coverings, paint and furniture throughout the first and second-floor pre-function spaces, boardrooms, and meeting rooms, as well as the 1,200-person capacity ballroom, according to a press release from Alfred Sanzari Enterprises, which managed the project.
The "capital improvement project" was a collaboration between Sanzari Enterprises, HotelStudio, and Kimmerle Newman Architects.
