The four-car crash happened at 10:39 a.m. in the westbound at Belle Avenue, according to Kyra Pazant, a spokesperson for the Bergen County Sheriff's Office.

A passing driver’s dashcam captured the moment a speeding vehicle rear-ended another, setting off a chain reaction, Pazant said. The impact forced the second vehicle into the third, which then struck a fourth vehicle in front of it. After being hit, Vehicle 2 spun out of control, veered off the road, and crashed into roadside bushes, Pazant said.

The driver of the second car reportedly lost consciousness during the crash and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries to her mouth, neck, and back, according to Pazant.

At the scene, six individuals declined medical attention, and three disabled vehicles had to be towed, Pazant stated.

Authorities shut down the westbound side of Route 4 at Grand Avenue as first responders worked the scene, she said. Bergen County Sheriff’s Patrol Units, Traffic Units, and Teaneck Police handled the response before clearing the area.

The driver of the first vehicle was issued one summons for following too closely, Pazant said.
