The official start of the tricentennial will be at a Thursday, Jan. 7 council meeting.
At 7 p.m. tricentennial committee chairman and Police Chief Robert Kugler will discuss the plan for the rest of the year and events for the township's 300th anniversary, Mayor Robert White said.
The mayor and council will also present Kugler with a $10,000 check to sponsor tricentennial events, White said.
"I think people are getting excited," White said of the historic anniversary. "Certainly certain groups are ratcheting up and getting excited about it."
Township officials will also honor the wife of the late Jack Wasdyke, Catherine, at the meeting.
Catherine Wasdyke will receive a plaque commemorating the contributions of her husband, who passed away in October, White said.
Wasdyke served as a historian for the town, among his other ventures.
"Without him, we would not have a book published with the comprehensive history of Saddle River Township/Saddle Brook," the tricentennial committee posted on its Facebook page.
