Kevin Kelly, 35, posted $100,000 bail and was released pending court action on a variety of drug-related charges after detectives seized more than seven pounds of marijuana, some mushrooms, drug paraphernalia and a pellet gun from his home, Police Chief John R. Russo told Daily Voice.
Postal employees alerted police on Dec. 10 to a package addressed to a fictitious name at Kelly's Hawthorne Street address, Russo said Wednesday afternoon.
"A pattern of similar packages delivered to the Kelly residence addressed to the fictitious name were confirmed over the course of the past year," Russo said.
Harry, a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 handled by Officer Leszek Lorenc, reacted positively to the presence of drugs in the recent package, the chief said.
So detectives set up a controlled delivery.
Once Kelly accepted the package, he was arrested, Russo said.
Charges against him include maintaining for operating a CDS production facility, distributing marijuana and possessing a firearm, marijuana, mushrooms and drug paraphernalia.
Russo thanked the sheriff and U.S. Postal Service Inspector Donna Algieri for their roles in the investigation, conducted by borough Capt. Patrick Feliciano, Detective Sgt. Michael Garner, Detectives Kevin Scannell and Russell Snyder and Officer John Ahearn.
