Louis Di Blasi, 44, was trying to get in when the Windsor Avenue victim closed the front door, getting gasoline tossed on him in the process, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.
“The victim then [saw] Di Blasi ignite the gasoline with a lighter,” Molinelli said.
Di Blasi “fled across the street toward his residence, where he was later arrested by East Rutherford Police.”
He’s being held on $750,000 bail, charged with attempted murder by arson.
Police officers from East Rutherford and Carlstadt put out the fire, with help from a volunteer firefighter, the prosecutor said.
Meanwhile, “the intended victim was able to escape the house without suffering any burns,” he said.
Why he did it still hasn’t officially been determined, Molinelli said.
