The Michael Cassidy Memorial Fund was organized in memory Michael Cassidy, who was a father, teacher and assistant principal at Rutherford High School. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma -- a type of brain tumor -- at the age of 54 and died three years later.

This fund raises money for the National Brain Tumor Society, the largest volunteer-based brain tumor organization in the country, which is also supported entirely by private and individual donations. The organization's mission is to find new therapies and a cure for the more than 120 types of brain tumors.

The run will begin at 10 a.m., with registration opening at 8 a.m. The race will start and finish on Monona Avenue, at Memorial Park, and will be held rain or shine. Click here for a course map.

Race-day registration is $30. The first 500 registrants are guaranteed a race t-shirt. There will be post-race refreshments and entertainment. There will be awards for the top three for both male and female, and the top three for both male and female, in five-year increment age groups.

There will be road closures and traffic delays along the route, between 9:30-11:30 a.m.

For more information about the event, visit its website or its Facebook page, or call event organizer Marilyn Cassidy at 201-280-3748. And, if you can't run, you can also donate to the fund, by clicking here.
