The elderly village resident was driving his four-door black Volkswagen west on East Ridgewood Avenue when it struck the 40-something woman as she crossed at Pershing Avenue around 7 p.m., Detective Capt. Forest Lyons told Daily Voice.

Passersby helped stabilized the woman until she could be taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, one of them said.

An investigation was continuing, Lyons said, adding that the driver received a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence.
