Babysitter left 2-year-old in car more than 20 minutes, Ridgewood police say

CVP UPDATE: Police waited nearly 20 minutes before a babysitter who left a 2-year-old alone in car finally came out of a nearby store, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

A passerby saw the toddler alone in the car after dark last night on East Ridgewood Avenue near Cottage Placeand immediately summoned Ridgewood police, Detective Chris McDowell.

Police arrested 31-year-old Jessica Kelly of Wyckoff and charged her with child neglect and possession of marijuana after the 6 p.m. call came in.

She was released pending an initial Municipal Court hearing.

Police notified the state Department of Youth and Family Services, which is conducting its own investigation.
