Firefighters Douse Overnight Freight Train Blaze In Maywood
A rolling dumpster fire of sorts was doused overnight in Maywood after a blaze ignited in a railroad car carrying construction debris and trash. Maywood Avenue was closed from Central to East Hunter Avenue after the train came to a stop, blocking the crossing, just after midnight Friday, March 17. Concern was initially expressed over a car purportedly carrying hazardous materials five or so car-lengths away, but firefighters contained the blaze. ALERT: Water Main Break Closes Major Roadway Near Route 3
A 12-inch water main break temporarily closed a major thoroughfare near Route 3 in Clifton. "Customers in the immediate area may experience low pressure [and] discolored or no water while repairs are made," Bryan Frierson of the Passaic Valley Water Commission said shortly after 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16. "Nutley residents near the Clifton border may also be affected," he noted, adding that commuters should find alternate routes. Frierson didn't say when they expect repairs will be completed. Driver Climbs Out After Rollover Crash In Wayne
No serious injuries were reported in a rollover crash on New Year's Eve in Wayne. The 2020 Honda Accord apparently struck a decorative boulder on the side of Garside Avenue near Langdale Road and rolled shortly before 1:30 p.m. Wayne firefighters responded and the driver got out OK. SUV Slams Into Utility Pole In Midland Park
A driver was hospitalized after his SUV struck a utility pole in Midland Park. Initial details were sketchy, but responders said the driver suffered head trauma in the early-morning crash on Erie Avenue near Smith Lane on Monday, Aug. 29. The road was closed as PSE&G made repairs to a pair of poles downed in the crash. The Toyota RAV 4 was towed. Several downed power lines shut down Route 80 and caused widespread power outages throughout Morris and Sussex Counties, developing reports say. The power lines were knocked down and a brush fire started in the westbound lanes near milepost 32.7 in Jefferson shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, according to initial and unconfirmed reports. 'Disgusting:' Scattered Dead Animal Carcasses Shut Down Sussex County Street
A Sussex County street had to be shut down due to an abundance of dead animal carcasses, authorities said. Lower High Street in Andover was closed as of 2:40 p.m. on Monday, July 11, according to the borough’s volunteer fire department. The road was closed from 517 to 206 as several companies assisted with the area’s cleanup, the department said. “We apologize for the disgusting smell!” the department said. Truck Downs Wires, Closes Busy Thoroughfare In Ridgewood
A truck snapped a utility pole in half, downing wires and temporarily blocking access to a Ridgewood school on Monday. The crash occurred on East Glen Avenue near Quackenbush Place just off northbound Route 17 shortly after 9:30 a.m. The driver wasn't injured. A fiery crash snapped a utility pole and shut down Route 46 in Morris County, authorities said. The Mountain Lakes Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash near Route 46 west and Fox Hill Lane around 6:55 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, the company said. Trapped Victim Flown To Hospital Following Route 80 Crash
One person was airlifted to a nearby hospital after becoming trapped inside their vehicle in a crash on Route 80, authorities said. The crash occurred in the westbound lanes near milepost 16.6 in Allamuchy on the afternoon of Monday, March 28, the local fire department confirmed on social media. A driver told police he had "mechanical issues" that sent his recycling truck veered off the road and into a tree in Hawthorne on Tuesday.
