21-Year-Old Jumps From Tappan Zee Bridge
This story has been updated. A 21-year-old man jumped midspan from the new Tappan Zee Bridge and was rescued from the water. The incident occurred on the Westchester/Rockland County border around 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13. According to the Tarrytown Fire Department, the Marine 5 crew responded within minutes, equipped with rescue swimmers onboard. A young Jewish man who went missing in Lakewood Sunday evening was found alive Monday morning inside a wooded area, so cold he was unable to move. A 35-year-old homeless man was found frozen to death and his companion barely alive Friday morning in a Palisades Park municipal parking garage, authorities said. The male companion was in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Hackensack University Medical Center, they said. Despite an heroic rescue effort by police and firefighters, a 13-year-old boy died after falling through the ice Wednesday night on an East Brunswick pond, authorities said. A 63-year-old woman from Morris County died attempting to climb Mount Washington, authorities said.
