Homeless Man Assaults Newark Fire Captain With Food Can
A Newark fire captain putting out a fire at a homeless encampment was hospitalized after a homeless man struck him with a can of food, city officials said. The firefighters had just finished putting out the blaze under Route 21 at Riverside Avenue when the man struck the captain with the can around 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, a statement reads. The captain was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and the homeless man was arrested, and taken to the hospital for crisis evaluation.

Homeless Man Found Dead Behind Dunkin' Donuts Dumpster In Hackensack, No Foul Play Suspected
No foul play was suspected in the death of a homeless man found in back of a Dunkin' Donuts in Hackensack, authorities said. The body was found behind a dumpster in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot on Passaic Street off Railroad Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, responders said. The Hispanic man, believed to be in his 30s, apparently had been camped out behind the trash bin, they said. City police cordoned off the area for the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office, which collected the body, and the Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification, which gathered evidence. Man Hospitalized In Paramus Mall Fall
A homeless man was hospitalized after he fell a dozen or so feet from a railing at a mall in Paramus over the weekend, responders said. The victim apparently tried to sit on the railing near the California Pizza Kitchen at the Garden State Plaza when he lost his balance and fell backward before flipping and landing on his feet, then his side, shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, they said.
