A Ridgefield senior was hospitalized early Saturday following an accidental bedroom fire, responders said. A mattress in her second-floor bedroom on Elm Avenue caught fire after the tenant fell asleep with a lit cigarette around 6:30 a.m. May 11, a family member said. A woman was killed in a wind-blown fire that destroyed a Toms River home and damaged four others Friday night, authorities said. Two people died in a New Year's Eve house fire in Butler, authorities said. A 74-year-old man was airlifted to a hospital with severe burns sustained in the Myrtle Avenue blaze, which broke out shortly before 5 p.m., responders said.
