Elizabeth Firefighter Tony Fanelli Jr. Dies, 44 The Elizabeth Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own. Anthony "Tony" Fanelli Jr. died on Nov. 26. He was 44 years old. Those who knew him said he died of medical complications. Tony came from a family of firefighters and spent 14 years with the department. His father, Tony Fanelli Sr., was a retired firefighter as were his uncle, Matt Fanelli, and Mike Fanelli, Local 2040 vice president. 'Simply One Of The Best': Beloved Elizabeth Fire Chief Dale Arthur Dies Dale Arthur -- a beloved battalion chief with the Elizabeth Fire Department -- died at home early Sunday morning, fire officials announced. Arthur spent most of his firefighting career on Ladder 3, and officer years as captain of Rescue 1 and, most recently, Battalion 2, Tour 1. Condolences poured in. Firefighters Feed Hose Through Window Of Car Blocking Hydrant To Battle Elizabeth Blaze Firefighters fed their house through the window of a vehicle blocking a hydrant to battle a three-alarm blaze that broke out Monday night in Elizabeth. Flames were tearing through a home at 224 Fulton St., when firefighters arrived around 10:30 p.m., officials said. The blaze at the two- and-  a-half wood-framed house spread to a three-story home and another two and a half-story house nearby, officials said.
