Longtime Pascack Valley Football Coach Steps Down

HILLSDALE, N.J. -- Craig Nielsen, one of the most successful public high school head football coaches in New Jersey, has stepped down from his position with Pascack Valley High School, according to northjersey.com.

Nielsen, declined to get into too many specifics regarding his decision, but told northjersey.com "it's just the right time."

During his coaching career at four schools that dates to 1986, Nielsen accumulated 175 career wins, according to northjersey.com. He led the Pascack Valley Indians to North 1, Group 4 sectional titles in 2013 and 2014 and also coached at Tenafly, Elmwood Park and Park Ridge, said northjersey.com.

Nielsen, who also is retiring from teaching, wracked up multiple awards in his career, including State Coach of the Year in 2015.

Pascack Valley Athletics Director Tom Gattoni told the Daily Voice Thursday "nothing is official" and he was unable to comment.
