The initiative was under the guidance of physical education teacher Dana Farinella. She instructed the students to — on their own — sort the candy into chocolate and non-chocolate items to be packaged and shipped.
“I am excited by the overwhelming generosity of our students," said Farinella, who boxed and weighed the' treats.
"For our first year conducting Operation Shoebox, they exceeded even my highest expectations,” she said.
George School Principal Jessica Gluck was impressed by the students’ citizenship and their willingness to donate hundreds of pounds of candy.
“I am so proud of the efforts and caring nature of our students,” Gluck said. “The amount of candy our students donated is really impressive and speaks to their character and the citizenship we are hoping to instill in our students.”
