Susannah Petersen was named a 2016 New Jersey "School Nurse Who Makes a Difference." NJSSNA awarded her this year's scholarship for her advanced health education, and to recognize contributions to school nursing. She has been the school nurse at Berkeley Elementary School since 2009.
Petersen has more than 25 years' experience as a nurse, and she's been a certified school nurse since 1991. Before coming to Berkeley School, she supervised school nurses throughout Bergen County for more than 10 years as a school nurse supervisor in Bergen County.
Mary Ellen Bolton, Brookside School's nurse, was honored by NJSSNA for her years of service in school nursing in the staet. She plans to retire July 1, after being a school nurse for 21 years,. She was with the district for 14 of those.
In addition to being a state certified school nurse, health educator and substance awareness coordinator. In addition, she is a faculty member of Fairleigh Dickinson University's Department of Administrative Science and an adjunct instructor in William Paterson University's Nursing Department. She is also a past president of the Bergen County School Nurses Association and the president of the Board of Directors for the School of Nursing's Alumni Association at Holy Name Medical Center.
