AP environmental science students assisted fifth-grade students from George and Washington elementary schools with their annual water-quality tests at the lake.

The students collected water samples and tested them for temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and turbidity. The results were recorded and uploaded onto the Internet, alongside similar results from hundreds of schools around the country.

The tests were coordinated by Stephen Kalish, who's both a school board member and director of strategic planning, management and execution at Xylem, a water technology company.
