The school's Safety Team develops activities and lessons to help create and maintain a positive school climate, and each spring, the committee plans a walk to bring the community together, encourage healthy habits and raise awareness for a chosen cause.

Students were asked to make a donation of $1 to participate in the walk. With approximately 300 students at the school, event organizers tripled their goal, raising nearly $1,000.

"This was truly a team effort," organizers noted, "as members of the Emerson Elementary PTA provided water for all walkers and the Watch DOGS -- Dads of Great Students -- volunteers were on hand to assist students and staff throughout the event."
