Tuesday he took his first steps towards following through on that promise when he had the Department of Public Works remove the door from his office.

"The office of the mayor represents the values of the town," Ghassali explained. "The town stands for hospitality and openness."

"I want to welcome people into the office and into our town. Removing the door sets the tone that this is more of a reception room than an office," he said.

Ghassali said he hopes an open-door environment will attract new businesses to Montvale.

"We welcome all new businesses and corporations into the Montvale community," he said.
