Emerson Police Officers Ryan Sokerka and Joseph Alasio detained 24-year-old Sharif J. Arrieta at the Kinderkamack Road post office -- in a shopping center across from the Stop & Shop -- just before 5 p.m. They then broadcast a description of the other two.

As neighboring Westwood and Oradell police converged, officers found Kareem Miller, 32, nearby, and Hassan Mahmood, 18, on a street behind the post office.

Mahmood, a Pakistani national, posted $7,500 bail and was released from the Bergen County Jail an hour or so later, records show.

Arrieta and Miller remained held there on $10,000 bail each on Oct. 8, according to jail records.

All are variously charged with forgery, theft by deception, and conspiracy.

Miller is also charged with resisting arrest.

Arrieta is also charged with obstruction and hindering prosecution.
