Mauterer was born in Newark to the late Robert Charles Mauterer, Jr. and Marie (Emm) Thorne.
He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a controller and bookkeeper for several years.
Mauterer was predeceased by his son and caregiver, Scott Mauterer.
He is survived by a son, Robert (Rachel) Charles, Lauren Beth Mauterer; and sister Paula (Robert) Thorne DiLeo.
Visitation is Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford. Cremation will be private.
