Vander Borgh graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, then received a master's in theology from Oberlin Graduate School of Theology, in Oberlin, Ohio. He then spent a year at the New Brunswick Theological Seminary, in New Brunswick.
He began his pastoral career at the Linlithgo Reformed Church, in Livingston, New York, where he was pastor from 1967-1973. Vander Borgh was then pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church, in Mohawk, New York, from 1973-1983. He then became pastor of the Old North Reformed Church, in Dumont, in 1983, where he served until he retired, in 2014.
Vander Borgh is survived by his sisters-in-law, Jane Vander Borgh and Joanne Vander Borgh; brother-in-law Edward Bratton and his wife Antoinette; niece Trudy Nasta and her husband Joe; many nieces, nephews, friends, and his cherished dog, constant companion and best friend, Abby.
He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Joan (Bratton) Vander Borgh; parents Andrew Vander Borgh and Gertrude Veryzer Vander Borgh; and brothers Andrew, Clarence and Robert Vander Borgh.
At Vander Borgh's request, there are will be no calling hours or service. The Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, in Dumont, is assisting with arrangements.
