"We have amended our master plan and changed ordinances to encourage new businesses to establish themselves in Montvale," Mayor Roger Fyfe told Daily Voice. "We have put the word out there that we will meet with anyone who has a reasonable proposal for any commercial piece of property in town."
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Kitex Garments Ltd. was held at its new Summit Avenue facility on Oct. 5. Kitex is the second-largest producer of children's apparel in the world and the largest private-sector employer in the Indian state of Kerala, its website says.
Jura Inc. will produce high-pressure coffee, espresso, cappuccino and latte machines in its newly-renovated, 30,000-square-foot Craig Road facility. The company, which operates in 40 countries, moved in Oct. 7.
Developers broke ground last month on a $125 million project that will bring Bergen County its first Wegmans supermarket at DePiero's Country Farm.
An additional 65,000 square feet of retail space will be constructed next to the 140,000-square-foot store, northjersey.com reported.
"The big draw has been the announcement that Memorial Sloan Kettering is building a facility here," Fyfe said of the regional cancer center coming to Montvale in 2017. "It has changed everything."
The center will be Sloan Kettering's third satellite facility in New Jersey, located within a quarter-mile of Exit 172 off the Garden State Parkway and about a mile from I-287.More than 400 patients a day will be able to visit doctors, undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments and receive outpatient services — complete with free parking — without having to travel to New York City.
"It will serve as the biggest economic engine to come to the area in decades," Fyfe said. "Stores, restaurants, hotels [and more] will experience a permanent boost in business.
"We are very fortunate," the mayor added, "that we are having such success battling corporate vacancies."
