But if a local Girl Scout Troop has its way, "Bruce the Spruce" – as the girls named it – won't come down anytime soon.
Fourth grade members of Junior Troop 6947 on Thursday gathered beneath the tree, which is located at the bottom of Ackerman Avenue, between the train station and Kinderkamack Road.
They held neon signs that read "GS Troop 6947 is small but mighty" on top and "Save Bruce" on the bottom.
The removal of the tree is part of the $4.082 million Kinderkamack Road improvement project, which will begin in June, Lamatina said.
"I always wondered why somebody didn't do something about it, then I realized I am that somebody," Troop 6947 parent Maria Buchert told Daily Voice.
