The River Vale mom of two, who, in 2014, had just had her second child, said she was increasingly frustrated after never being able to find socks made well enough to avoid this nuisance.
Sheby, who grew up in Pomona, N.Y., never set out to become an entrepreneur. But, after finding a void in the marketplace, she took it upon herself to fix the problem.
Her solution? BabyfitFOREVER, baby essentials with "just the right fit" -- think items that stay on your baby's little toes.
"The genius of the sock is in its design," she said. "These are practical socks with a purpose. They feature non-slip grippers, comfy seamless toes and Y-heel stay-on construction."
She launched the company in November 2014 -- while still maintaining her marketing day job -- and continues to do double-duty.
*For me, success was the drive and perseverance to pursue and idea and see it come to fruition," she told Daily Voice.
The now defunct show, “Quirky” on the Sundance Channel was her inspiration, giving her the momentum she needed. With, "Quirky," she explained, you submit an idea on their website, then try to secure 200 or more votes before it moves to the next level for product review. Though she received the required votes, along with some great feedback, Quirky told Sheby they didn't deal with apparel.
That's when -- "after being discouraged for maybe a minute" -- she decided to pursue her sock idea on her own. She researched various sock manufacturers and worked with them on the design, fit and packaging.
She also came up with a logo, created a website and put together a business plan and strategy.
Now, in addition to baby socks, she also created gloves for ages three to six as well as bean bag warmers. Go to www.babyfitforever.com/ for more information. The socks are sold on her website, on Amazon, as well as at The Canteen in Westwood.
