The New Yorker editor was born Oct. 29, 1958 and turns age 58 today.

He is the author of several bestselling books, including a 2010 biography and memoir of President Obama, "The Bridge."

Remick was raised in Hillsdale and graduated from Pascack Valley High School in Hillsdale, Class of 1977. He worked for the school newspaper, The Smoke Signal, which still runs online.

He graduated from Princeton University in 1981 with an A.B. in comparative literature. He was a member of the University Press Club with writer John McPhee, and helped found The Nassau Weekly.

His first reporting job was with the Washington Post where he became the paper’s Moscow correspondent.

Remick started with the New Yorker in 1992. In 1998, he became editor, succeeding Tina Brown.

He and his wife Esther Fein have three children and live in New York City.
