Cyril Kearny sustained a concussion and a leg injury that required surgery after being thrown onto and over the car that hit him at the intersection of Berkeley and Harrington avenues on Oct. 14 (SEE: Westwood Crossing Guard Struck).

The 70-something Berkeley School crossing guard was helping a woman cross the road when he was struck.

"Cyril walked every day through rain, snow, and all types of weather from Hillsdale to Westwood to be there early to cross our kids and anyone else who was crossing," said the fundraiser's founder and borough mother, Toni Ann Migliore, on the GoFundMe page.

"He is a dedicated, loyal and caring man that had the safety of people, especially kids, as his #1 priority," she said. "He loved his job. And many, many people love him and want to help him."

"He’s very caring, watches out for the children all the time," Police Chief Frank Regino said. "It’s very heart-wrenching to see that he’s injured in this way."
